Cairo is the capital of Egypt and is the largest metropolitan city in Africa and the Middle East and is located on the Nile River right where the desert transitions from the desert into the Nile delta.

Pyramids and Sphinx
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the last intact ancient Wonder of the World. This was built over 4,000 years ago and to this day, no one knows exactly how it was built! Enjoy a camel ride with amazing pictures of the pyramids behind you.

Islamic Cairo
The historic heart of Cairo. This area contains one of the largest collections of historic architecture in the Islamic world. Numerous mosques, madrassas, fortifications, and tombs (639 to the early 16th century), making Cairo one of the world’s oldest Islamic cities.

Khan El Khalil Bazaar
Khan el-Khalili is the famous shopping market in Islamic Cairo and is just off of al-Muizz street. which is one of the oldest streets in Cairo. This street is roughly 1 km long, where you can find Tent Makers Market which has small shops selling colorful textiles and handmade blankets, cushions, bed covers, and tents. Continue the walk south to visit a produce market and numerous small shops in Islamic Cairo.

Salah El Din Citadel
For almost 700 years (from the 13th to 19th centuries), this was the seat of government in Egypt. In 1976, it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From virtually anywhere in Cairo, you can see the Citadel because of its prominent location on the Mokattam hills. The main attraction is the The Mosque of Muhammed Ali which was completed in 1857. It is also called the Alabastor Mosque as the beautiful white Alabastor stone covers the interior of the mosque as well as the courtyard.

Dashur, Memphis, Saqqara
Dashur contains two of the oldest and best preserved pyramids in Egypt, even older than those in Giza. The Bent Pyramid was the first attempt at building a smooth-sided pyramid, but they didn’t quite get it right which is why you will see many different angles. The Red Pyramid was the second attempt and it was a success. Memphis was the first capital city of Egypt. Saqqara was the necropolis for the city of Memphis. Here you will find the famous Step Pyramid of Djoser.

Coptic (Old) Cairo
Coptic Cairo is located in Old Cairo in the southern part of the city. The first settlements here date back to the 6th century BC. Many of the places to visit here originate from Egypt’s Christian past, but you can also visit a synagogue and the first mosque built in Africa. Visit the most famous church in Cairo - the Hanging Church and the largest in the Middle East known as the Cave Church which can hold up to 20,000 people!
